Puerto Morelos is the main port of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, is located north of the state in the municipality of Benito Juarez, which is one of its three branches and is located about 36 miles south of Cancun.
It has port facilities for cargo handling offshore vessels with national and international traffic. Its fishery is important and has facilities for industrialization of fishery products, an industrial park and developing tourist facilities currently being built, with the latter growing industry one of the most important activities.
Its reef (declared National Park) is part of the second largest barrier reef in the world, and is just 500 meters from the beach. Ideal for scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkeling and other marine activities. South of the entrance to the town is a botanical garden (the Mayan jungle sanctuary) of 65 ha in size where you can enjoy wildlife (spider monkeys, coati) in the region north of the entrance is a small zoo that houses boas, ocelots and crocodiles main attraction of all ages.
